Baby Cakes is an Open Type font with three different weights. A fully functioning font with a full set of symbols and over 200 personalized glyphs, Baby Cakes is a font with a sweet personality. This is my very first typeface, and what an ambitious one at that.

I wanted to create a hollow font that plays around as a slab serif sometimes and sans serif when it wants to go the beach. It mixes cursive elements with print lettering occasionally, when it can be bothered. It takes much of it’s design appeal from the Deco movement.

This font is elegant while remaining approachable. It’s nostalgic with a modern style. Lets take the car to the beach and tell everyone how much fun we’re having. Lets go on a roadtrip and take trendy photos.

Baby Cakes! Having fun and looking good doing it. You can purchase this font here!

It’s also the moniker of a close friend. Needless to say I was more than willing to help out when the time came for some posters and advertisement. Everyone knows that gig posters are forever changing with random trends and aesthetics, but always classic. I wanted to make the posters for the first gig and consequent shows to follow a consistent series for fans and passerby’s alike to recognize at first sight.

A whole year’s worth of hard work culminating into one seven foot patch of wall and a pink guitar. The gallery was located on the Glasgow School of Art’s new campus in the West End of the city at SkyPark. Our class was the first to show in the perfectly pristine white space.

The show was also curated by myself and my fellow classmates for its runtime. The closing party was not only a celebration of the work but of our status as newly graduated Masters. My studies involved the creation of a fictitious band and everything that is incorporated with music via image. A more indepth look will be available soon.

They’re all about service design, you know, that thing that deals with the public and looking good. I was fortunate enough to get to know a few of the members and work alongside them in the same studio in Glasgow.

Snook asked for their name written out in the urban style of Glasgow’s architecture ranging from the traditional sandstone flats to the more recognizable buildings. Some of the landmarks include the Glasgow Crane, The Science Centre, Kelvingrove Museum, and plenty of random buildings you would see throughout the city. Of course if you are not familiar with the location please simply enjoy the variety of architecture that Glasgow has to offer via these images.

The giant “S” was also a part of the project to incorporate the entirety of the country. All of Scotland’s main cities are present in the letter form as well as some of the more recognizable landmarks (Nessie!). It worked to promote the company itself and a sense of Scottish pride.

It is situated on Lake Champlain and overlooks the green and blue mountains of Vermont. It’s a pretty nice place to grow up, to go swimming and hiking, and some really good biking too.

I wanted to create an identity for the area and took it upon myself to brand the city. We’re surrounded by mountains and evergreens and lakes and ponds, there’s green and blue everywhere. There is a local legend about the lake that the Loch Ness Sea Monster’s cousin, Champy, lives in the deep waters. It’s a pretty dark lake, long and narrow with black water you can’t see through. Who’s to say he isn’t there? Having swam in the lake my whole life I can say that he definitely maybe is around.

The Adirondack Park boasts the largest acreage of all the national parks in the U.S. combined with small towns littered throughout. My hometown is situated at the very top of the mountain range; sometimes referred to as the Lake City. Lake Champlain and the green mountains of the ADK’s are where I grew up.

These four large scale pieces depict the mountain ranges, hundreds of lakes, and small towns of upstate New York while following the path of the Amtrak train. Created to fill the walls of a pediatrician’s office, each scene was asked to include the owner’s Border Collie Pepper on her adventure visiting the sites. From Mount Marcy, the largest mountain in the park, to Olympic ski mountain Whiteface and the surrounding town of Lake Placid, Pepper’s hitching a ride on the way. The series ends at the D&H train station in Plattsburgh, ready to start the journey all over again.

The dimensions of the pieces vary slightly, but all of which scale over six feet in length. It was important to capture the feeling of the area using the colors and tiny details you’d find here. Personally I find the best time of year to be in the region is summer surrounded by sun, thus the secondary palette. Fauna dispersed throughout, you can’t be in the ADK’s without an abundance of life. Even the city of Plattsburgh in the left corner of the final piece is an exact replica of downtown over looking the lake. It’s really a nice place to be!

Asked to contribute to their gallery showcase, my City Life series couldn’t ask for better exposure. Self portraits were also suggested for the article so I sent a recently drawn illustration of myself to include rather than the traditional photograph.

A mini series inside the City. The Districts that make up our daily lives. This is China Town. After having enough of take out, it’s time for the real experience. Maybe you can get a knock off art print of that ancient art piece you like so much. Or simply take in this small section of a cultural island inside the rest of the city.

Part of the City Life series.
