Just Call Me Cupcake is a small business that sells tiny cakes known as cupcakes, which I may add are delicious. They use only the finest local ingredients to create their multitude of recipes. In need of some advertising, the ladies of JCMC asked me for an identity to encompass their start up business. Fun and engaging with a classy appeal, much like the cupcake itself.

Plattsburgh

My hometown (Plattsburgh) is situated right above the blue line, which defines the beginning of the Adirondacks and just below the Great White North. It is situated on Lake Champlain and overlooks the green and blue mountains of Vermont. It’s a pretty nice place to grow up, to go swimming and hiking, and some really good biking too.

I wanted to create an identity for the area and took it upon myself to brand the city. We’re surrounded by mountains and evergreens and lakes and ponds, there’s green and blue everywhere. There is a local legend about the lake that the Loch Ness Sea Monster’s cousin, Champy, lives in the deep waters. It’s a pretty dark lake, long and narrow with black water you can’t see through. Who’s to say he isn’t there? Having swam in the lake my whole life I can say that he definitely maybe is around.

Adirondacks

There is a train ride that travels through the northern most town of New York before Canada, to the southern metropolis of NYC. The Adirondack Park boasts the largest acreage of all the national parks in the U.S. combined with small towns littered throughout. My hometown is situated at the very top of the mountain range; sometimes referred to as the Lake City. Lake Champlain and the green mountains of the ADK’s are where I grew up.

These four large scale pieces depict the mountain ranges, hundreds of lakes, and small towns of upstate New York while following the path of the Amtrak train. Created to fill the walls of a pediatrician’s office, each scene was asked to include the owner’s Border Collie Pepper on her adventure visiting the sites. From Mount Marcy, the largest mountain in the park, to Olympic ski mountain Whiteface and the surrounding town of Lake Placid, Pepper’s hitching a ride on the way. The series ends at the D&H train station in Plattsburgh, ready to start the journey all over again.

The dimensions of the pieces vary slightly, but all of which scale over six feet in length. It was important to capture the feeling of the area using the colors and tiny details you’d find here. Personally I find the best time of year to be in the region is summer surrounded by sun, thus the secondary palette. Fauna dispersed throughout, you can’t be in the ADK’s without an abundance of life. Even the city of Plattsburgh in the left corner of the final piece is an exact replica of downtown over looking the lake. It’s really a nice place to be!

Digital Artist Magazine

‘The Shopping District’ was featured in UK based magazine Digital Artist. Asked to contribute to their gallery showcase, my City Life series couldn’t ask for better exposure. Self portraits were also suggested for the article so I sent a recently drawn illustration of myself to include rather than the traditional photograph.

That new restaurant that sells fusion sushi just opened up near the arcade with five haberdasheries. Meet me below the new giant advertisement sign in the square. Which one?

A mini series inside the City. The Districts that make up our daily lives. This is the Housing District. In this neighborhood you can run into old friends, head out for the big shop because the fridge is looking a bit empty, but most importantly this is where you hang your hat.

Pool Party

The Annual Belser Ehrlich Pool Party started 4 years ago. It was a get together among friends from all over New York state. Some were away in college, some had real world jobs, but all needed a break from the summer weather. The event started small but eventually grew to this yearly status as the best party ever attended. Good music, great food, old friends, cold beer, and of course a refreshing pool provided us with something to look forward to every sub zero winter.

A mini series of sorts inside the City. A small suburb where nothing really happens. Self contained neighborhoods with a noise complaint problem. I have a love for dissections of land, a flat view of the layered complexities in a scene. My pride in these images beyond the pseudo 3-Dimensional containment of houses is the pipe work, it’s the details that count!

You Lucky Bastards was an exhibition put on by the Assembly Line Collective based out of San Francisco. I was asked to partake in the multi-national artist show while living in Scotland. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the event but the photos let me know it was a good time. My MonsterFACE series was on display in it’s large scale canvas’d glory.
